Happy New Year 2013 from Post and Packing!
We hope you had a lovely Christmas and are eager to start the New Year as you mean to go on. Have you made any New Year’s resolutions for 2013 yet? What changes do you want to make for 2013? Whether you are wanting to spend more time with your family and friends, lose weight, get fit, stop smoking/drinking or learn something new, millions of us out there make these New Year’s resolutions and will break them before the first week in January is done!
So many New Year’s resolutions are broken year after year because they are made on a whim without thinking it through. It’s fine to say you want to get fit and join a gym, but if you have a 50 hour a week job, kids to take care of in the morning and as soon as you come in from work, and activity clubs you need to ferry the kids round to on the weekend, then this may not be the New Year’s resolution for you.
In order to be more successful with your New Year’s resolution you need to evaluate your life first to see how realistic your goal is and whether any changes that are required to achieve it are viable. You may need to make allowances, for example, if you want to get fit you may not have time to join a gym, but how about walking the kids to and from school a couple of days a week or taking the family out altogether on a Sunday for a walk weekly. Take time out to do these things when you can and don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself otherwise you will fail. Little steps will help you to reach your goal and you will feel a lot better for it in the long run.
Have you made any New Year’s resolutions for your business? Whether you want to call them resolutions or not, the beginning of January is a great time to re-evaluate your business and set some goals for the year ahead. Whether you want to reach more potential customers, motivate your workforce to be more productive, get your business online or expand your business, make sure you don’t make too many. Like personal New Year’s resolutions, the majority of business resolutions fail within 2 months. Again, this is often due to businesses being too busy and setting unrealistic targets at the start.
Whether you are making New Year’s resolutions for business or your personal life, the main tool you need for success of these is focus. Work out what your main goal is for 2013 and how you are going to go focus on achieving that goal. Results do not have to be immediate and your goal may not come to fruition until later in the year, but that’s fine if you focus your time proactively from now until then. If things get too hectic and you lose track of your goal for a month of two, don’t quit your resolution, just work out what has gone wrong and how you are going to fix it. Re-evaluate your goal and re-focus.
Good luck with your resolutions!
